Having enthusiastically and successfully immersed myself in education for the past 34 years - devoting my passion to enable others to follow their dreams, it is now my time…and yours.
I have always approached my students by embodying kindness, compassion and patience whilst promoting individuality and engaging all - improving their state of well-being within an atmosphere of calmness.
It was educational experts who highlighted this inspirational approach, insisting I develop and share my gift in a wider environment. This sparked my curiosity and spurred me on to find out more about breathworks, mindfulness, meditation, kindness and compassion and its effect on: behaviour, trauma, stress, anxiety, health and well-being.
It really started in 1998 when I became chronically ill despite being extremely fit and healthy. This led me to research alternatives to the crippling medications being offered to me. I decided to immerse myself in: gut health research; diet; different ways to exercise and their effect physically and mentally; meditation; yoga and Buddhist retreats.
This intensely lengthy journey of 20+ years, involving much research, as well as debate, eventually led me to the impressive ‘Breathworks’ Advanced Mindfulness Teacher Accreditation Course.
After 2 years of devotion to this, I became a qualified Advanced Teacher of Breathworks. This was only the beginning as I continue to take courses with Breathworks and be impressed and convinced by their teaching strategies, concepts and all the resources they develop and make available, in many cases free, including their Community of Practice – Breathworks Community of Practice
Breathworks and mindfulness are now part of my daily life; leading me through the undulations that life presents and empowers me by being able to have the resilience to cope with this life that is often turbulent. We all have traumas (past and present), illnesses, fears and times when we just don’t know how to carry on but my promise to you is that these courses will guide and support you through challenging times and offer you alternative coping strategies.
Now I am in a comfortable mental and physical place, embedding a healthy lifestyle into my life, I am able to enjoy my stunning back garden - The Lake District- walking the fells and swimming its waters; I make the time to eat healthily and ensure I embrace pacing, to allow myself time to recuperate (which ironically creates more time for me in the end as I am not feeling burned out, stressed or ill.)
By completing an 8-week breathworks course, or attending meditation classes, you too will have an entire tool kit of concepts and practices to enable you to glide gracefully through those scary swells of choppy waters!
What else do you need to know about me? I love nature and animals; read fiction and non-fiction; listen to radio 4, avidly; enjoy the theatre and cinema and have been known to dance on tables! One day I would love to write and if I was to wish for something - it would be that we are all a little more kind, compassionate and patient with ourselves and each other.
I have also been a carer for much of my life, caring for my Mum for many years, who had complex health conditions and eventually dementia, prompting me to want to know more about the brain and neuroscience. For four years, I also cared for my Mother-in-law, with dementia and terminal cancer. These experiences led me to question how the brain works, its plasticity, the hormonal changes it is capable of, its link to the gut and how we can influence these for our benefit and well-being.
